Fall Art Show 2015 Preview

 Art 1 students were asked to create a "Map" of themselves, using symbols that represented them, and pattern and a variety of line.

 Art 1 Students were asked to create a portrait with realistic proportions and 5 levels of value or shading.

 Art 1 students created portraits of animals using scratchboard.  They scratch the white marks onto a black surface.

 Art 1 students cropped a new composition based on pen and ink drawings by Vincent Van Gogh, using a quill dipped in ink.

 Art 1 students are asked to create work based on their own independent investigations, and point of view.

 Art 1 students created a monochromatic painting.

Art 1- Semester 2

 

After learning about distance and linear perspective, students were asked to create a composition that showed the illusion of depth, and used 1, 2 or 3 point perspective. 

 

 Students were asked to create a collage of a morphed, or distorted being.  They created a painting based on this collage.  The figure in the painting had to be in black and white paint only, and use a range of values to show form.

As an introduction to color, students created a color wheel design.

Art 1- Semester 1- Lesson Plan Examples

 The students were given pen and ink illustrations and asked to cut out no more than two 2"X2" squares, and glue them to a piece of large drawing paper.  The objective was to disguise the squares with the same kind of mark making, while creating a new illustration.  The illustration should consider the characters, props and background that help tell the "story".

Students cropped out a new composition, from a Van Gogh pen and ink drawing.  They used a quill pen dipped in ink to complete the short study.

Student used color to create an artwork inspired by or for the Day of the Dead celebration.  They were encouraged to use pattern, and could reference/use Mexican Folk Art designs as part of their design. 

 Students selected a portrait and did a light and shadow tracing of the portrait.  They transferred the outline to watercolor paper, and filled in the shadow shapes with text that was relevant to the person in the portrait.  They used expressive watercolor to complete the piece.

Students created a portrait of an animal using scratchboard.  The white marks are scratched off of a black surface using a scratchboard tool.

After studying and drawing the features of the face, students selected a picture to work from for a portrait.  The finished product had to show a range of value, and demonstrate an understanding of how to create 3- dimensional form.
